Aldo Bagnolesi finally has what he's long wanted. Control of the family winery in Tuscany. The only little detail is that someone has to manage the place for a few years. He's far too involved in his company to leave on such short notice, but his daughter…

Despite her worries, Nicola agrees to step up to the plate, even though her interest in Italy and wine is sorely lacking. Her father will relieve her in two years. How bad could two years in one the prettiest places on earth be?

The transition is tough and she’s achingly lonely. Nic knows nothing about running a winery and can’t talk to the workers or the wine maker. She's desperate for connection; for any semblance of her former busy social life. The closest gay bar is in Florence. She heads out—determined to at least talk to someone she has one thing in common with. To her delight, she finds not just a willing lesbian, but a sexy one—who seems equally interested in her.

It's crazy to put so much importance on a chance meeting. But sometimes, you have to throw your doubts to the winds and see what the universe has in store for you.

So glad this is not my first Susan Meagher book because I would not have read "Inside Out" and her even better one: "Chef's Special". The Crush was so lacking in passion, in depth, that I kept reading into 30% of the book waiting for the story to develop into something interesting. The Nicola character seemed like a school girl at her parent's beck and call. Immature and boring. Chiara, the Italian beauty was just a hair more interesting and I kept wondering what she saw in Nicola. I stopped reading at 35% in, didn't even care if they stayed together. What a waste.

The Crush edition by Susan X Meagher Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Good read. I thank the author for a story about Women living full meaningful lives, who also happen to be Lesbians. Their love scenes were great, not overboard eroticism, very tastefully done. Speaking of taste.
It was unclear, to me at least,if they always drank the entire bottle of wine. In all of the how to about wine and wine making, there was no how to save an unfinished bottle.
Having grown up in a Chicago suburb, one that was mentioned in the book, I can relate to Nic's love of Chicago foods. Learning to love wine, Italy, and a new language was quite a task. The story and characters were developed well. I enjoyed learning about growing grapes and about Italian traditions. I would highly recommend this book to my friends.
This is her best one. A great story of a young woman growing up b realizing she is allowing her family to keep her their child. Main story is filled with interesting explanations of how a vineyard comes to life as well as the importance of culture to a place. The love interest is HOT and that made putting the book down very hard. I would read this one again. It is well paced and sweet.
What's not to love about this book? All of the characters were complex and the dynamics between them were believable; the plot was deeply entertaining and well developed; and although it's a romance novel it wasn't riddled with overly descriptive sex scenes that would have made it trashy (although the tasteful, carefully placed sex scenes were hot).

I'd give this book more than 5 stars if that were an option. Absolutely fantastic read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
So I kinda bought this book by mistake but I'm glad I have it now just to fast forward to any and all scenes involving the lovely Chiara! The author created a very sexy, 3 dimensional character with this Italian woman. Yeah, Nic's okay but someone else already mentioned the cartoonish way she's put out there sometimes. I think that it's just hard to measure up to Chiara though. ;)

But Chiara? Worth reading to just follow her throughout the story. Very awesome characterization indeed. I so wanna meet this lady! lol She HAS to be real.
This was really an amazingly realistic story. I've seen people put that into their reviews before, but this was the first time I personally experience it. Nicola is sent to Italy by her father to "oversee" the family vineyards until her farther can retire and take over in a couple of years. From the beginning she realizes that her father views her as replaceable...a couple of years "exiled in paradise" and she can return to Chicago... with not a ripple being felt. Nicola farther loves her...he just do not value her worth. As another reviewer noted, the dynamics between Nicola and her father was very intense (and I could have slapped that cousin). Going to Italy helped Nicola to grow up. Imagine being dumped in a foreign country where you understand know one, and know one understands you. I have to admit Nicola was very pitiful in the beginning, but when push came to shove she picked her self up and took an interest. Than there is the beautiful charming Chiara who gives Nicola, and the reader, a lesson on being a wine maker and an authentic look at Italy. Chiara passion for wine, Italy, and Nicola makes this book a new favorite.
The book contains almost everything you wanted to know about vineyards, small wineries, small Italian towns, love at first ice cube, and dysfunctional families.

As usual, Susan has written a book that you just WANT to read, don't WANT to put down, and don't WANT to end. You'll fall in love with Nicola and Chiara, want to hit Aldo, Nicola's father, upside the head, and wonder at the history and traditions of the Italians and their town.

Can't say enough good things about Susan's ability to tell great stories........and here's another one!! Thanks, you!!
